The Riverina Highlands Landcare Network has completed a number of projects in the local area including:
Eradication of Black Willow
The Black Willow (Salix nigra) is the most invasive willow species introduced into Australia.
This willow invades creek lines and excludes native vegetation. Colonisation of instream bars can also divert and constrict flows leading to bank erosion
The Riverina Highlands Landcare Network received funding to undertake a major mapping and control program in all known areas of the region. More than 230km of river and creeklines has been controlled.
Regreening the Gilmore
With funding from the Murrumbidgee CMA, Envirofund and Visy, Gilmore Landcare has created over 11km of native vegetation corridors in the Gilmore Valley.
These corridors link the existing native vegetation on the ridges with the scattered paddock trees on the valley floor.
A total of 19 landholders participated in this project which involved mainly fencing and tree planting
Protecting Gundagai South Cemetary
Gundagai Bushcare has undertaken a number of activities to protect the Grassy Whitebox woodland at the historic Gundagai South Cemetary.
The Cemetary is believed to be one of the most intact Grassy Whitebox woodlands in southern NSW.
Works at the site have included fencing to control vehicle access, weeding, revegetation and the placement of interpretative information.
