Landcare Group Activities

ADAMINABY Landcare is focusing on native grassland management and noxious weed control. Planned projects include a Native Grassland Management Plan for the Adaminaby Golf Course and associated lands, and a Broom control program focusing on Old Adaminaby and Anglers Reach.

BREDBO Landcare is protecting and rehabilitating native grassland communities through a weed control and biodiversity enhancement program. The group holds many field days showcasing control methods and sustainable agricultural farming practices including the most recent one at Colinton. Future projects include noxious weed control trials and linking remnant vegetation in the Bredbo-Colinton areas.

BURRA Landcare’s focus is the protection of native vegetation remnants and establish met it of link corridors. The group is revegetating link corridors in their area by planting tubestock, direct seeding and fencing.

CAPTAINS FLAT Landcare is protecting and rehabilitating their local environment through weed control, especially Broom, and raising awareness through community education. Future projects include a willow removal and revegetation project on Kerrs Creek, and rehabilitation of the Old Southern Tablelands Mill site.

CARWOOLA Landcare is planting a further 2000 trees following
on the successful Corridors of Green project. Over 3 km of direct
seeding is being undertaken to continue establishing links between
areas of remnant native vegetation. A pilot study to assess the
feasibility of controlling willows on the Molonglo River is also
underway. A further study has seen the group link with CSIRO to trial the inoculation and germination of Acacia sp.

Onground works by Landcarers at Pine Range Reserve

COOMA Landcare continues to focus on revegetating and enhancing the Pine Range Reserve on the edge of Cooma. Works include the stabilisation of eroding tracks, weed control, revegetation and the creation of a walking track to relieve visitor impact on the area. COOMA-MURRUMBIDGEE Landcare is a relatively new group focusing on the protection and enhancement of native grasslands through weed control. The group is carrying out a willow removal and revegetation project on the
Murrumbidgee River in conjunction with the Cooma Monaro Shire Council the Upper Murrumbidgee Landcare Committee and landholders The project will be carried out around the River Reserve and Cooma Water Supply Reservoir

DRY PLAINS Landcare has an ongoing commitment to the development of the Middlingbank Peninsula Management Plan in conjunction with the SMA and DLWC and WWF. Other projects include the revegetation of link corridors between native vegetation remnants, and the removal of Willows in the headwaters of Welchs Creek.

HOSKINSTOWN Landcare is protecting native vegetation remnants and establishing link corridors. Additional projects include weed control with Bungendore Landcare aimed at rehabilitating degraded land, and an ongoing native plant propagation project with the Bungendore Public School in conjunction with Greening Australia. This group is continuing to build on the successes of past projects and have produced a booklet with Greening Australia that can assist landholders with the correct vegetation associations required for specific areas.


JERANGLE Landcare is focusing on protecting, improving and enhancing the biodiversity of their area through on farm activity and farm management education. The group is planning to establish three trial sites to compare revegetation techniques in their area.

KYBEAN Landcare is focusing on sustainable land management in their area. Current projects include a coordinated foxbaiting program in conjunction with other landcare groups such as Nimmitabel Landcare and the Rural Lands Protection Board. Members of the group have recently completed the Prograze course.

MICHELAGO Landcare’s priorities include native vegetation management, weed control and soil erosion. Projects include willow removal and streambank revegetation on the Michelago Creek, where the group aims to establish a
recreational picnic area. The picnic area site has and will be used for Waterwatch workshops with the Michelago Public School. Recent projects include revegetation works along the Monaro Highway tinder Olympic Landcare.

NIMMITABEL Landcare is continuing the highly successful joint Nimmitabel/Numeralla project, aimed at protecting and rehabilitating native grassland communities. The group is also undertaking a coordinated fox baiting program in conjunction other landcare groups such as Kybean Landcare, and the Rural Lands Protection Board. The group also carried out a project enhancing the surrounds of Lake Williams under Olympic Landcare.

Revegetation works at Numerella

NUMERALLA Landcare is also continuing with the Nimmitabel/Numeralla Project as described above, and the Numeralla River project that includes the control of 30 kin of Willow and 1 Skin of Gorse and fencing over 20 kin of the river
(both sides) so far. The group will also control Willows and Broom
along a 25kmstretch of the Badja River. The group has recently
successfully completed a major gully erosion rehabilitation project
at Blytons Sheepyard Creek, thereby building on the success of the
group that previously saw the group receive Gold Rivercare Awards
for their achievements. Revegetation works at Numeralla

QUEANBEYAN Landcare projects include a native vegetation awareness campaign in Bicentennial park, and the development of a management plan to protect Pink-tailed Legless Lizard habitat in Queanbeyan in conjunction with WWF, DLWC and NPWS. The group has carried out willow control and revegetation trials on Buttles Creek in conjunction with Green Corps and the Queanbeyan City Council. The group is also propagating plants for revegetation work in the former Queanbeyan City Council nursery.

ROYALLA Landcare is planning to partake in the Murrumbidgee River-Tinderry Ranges Remnant Vegetation Link Corridor project in conjunction with Greening Australia. Current projects include Briar, Scotch, Nodding and Saffron Thistle control. The group participated in Waterwatch Day at Jerrabomberra Creek and plans to buy a Waterwatch kit to undertake water quality monitoring

SMITHS ROAD Landcare is continuing to revegetate and fence remnant vegetation corridors running between the Murrumbidgee River and the Clear Range. Further fencing and tree planting projects are planned, as well as erosion control works. The group will also undertake willow control work aimed at improving the health of their catchment area.
