Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority

Land

The Land Asset Targets in the Murrumbidgee Catchment Action Plan set out the approach we will adopt to increase the sustainability and viability of soil and land managment practices within the catchment.

The purpose of the Murrumbidgee Catchment Action Plan is to provide strategic direction for investment in natural resource management for the Murrumbidgee catchment.

The programs put forward by the Murrumbdigee CMA for investment is set out in four themes; Biodiversity, Community, Land and Water.

Land Asset: Murrumbidgee Catchment Resource Condition Targets

TARGET 1: Support sustainable farming enterprises by improving key soil health indicators

TARGET 2: Improved water use efficency within cropping systems

TARGET 3: Reduce the extent of dryland salinity and outbreaks

TARGET 4: Increase the perennial content in both grazing systems and the pasture phase of farming systems

What are we doing?

Through targeted projects across the catchment funded by the NSW and Australian Governments we;

Support landholders to:

  • Increase the adoption of low impact grazing and conservation farming systems such as minimum tillage, rotational grazing and water efficient technology
  • Increase the areas of perennial plants across the catchment, to reduce recharge and improve soil health
  • Attend training programs to build skills in land management.

Support local government to:

  • Develop sustainable landuse planning processes
  • Implement activities that minimise the impact of degrading process such as salinity on high value infrastructure.
