Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority

Grazing Management

The project will target grazing zones of the upper (Yass to Cooma) and lower (west of Narrandera) areas of the Murrumbidgee catchment.  Subject to the availability of funds the project may extend to other areas within the Murrumbidgee catchment.

This project provides incentives to landholders to divide predominately native grass and shrub paddocks (greater than 50 hectares) so that a rotational grazing system can be implemented to improve pasture utilisation, while providing adequate rest from grazing to maintain and improve pasture species diversity and vigour.

The Murrumbidgee CMA will contribute to the cost of the following activities through direct payments to landholders:

  • Materials to install paddock subdivisional fencing
  • Water infrastructure materials for the provision of stock water to paddocks in the project area (earthen dam or reticulated system)

Prior to receiving incentives related to the Grazing Management project, the landholder or land manager must agree to take part in an approved Murrumbidgee CMA training course. The Murrumbidgee CMA will provide up to 100% of the cost of an approved training course to a maximum of $3,000 per individual. Approved courses include Prograze, Grazing for Profit, Tactical Grazing, Landscan, Rangeland Grazing Management, Holistic Resource Management, and Applied Grazing.
